Engram - The Cognitive Retention Layer for AI Coding

Developers use AI tools like Cursor to write code fast, but quickly forget what was built. Engram tests you on yesterday's AI-generated code with quick morning recall questions so you never lose touch with your own codebase.

The Problem

Almost every developer is using AI tools like Cursor, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot to ship code faster today. It feels great while you're writing it, but a few days later, you barely remember what the AI generated.

When a bug pops up in production or an interviewer asks you why a module was built a certain way, you end up staring at code you supposedly "wrote", completely stuck. You shipped fast, but you didn't actually learn or retain the architecture.

How Engram Solves It

Engram sits quietly in your IDE as a background hook. Whenever you use Cursor, Claude, or Antigravity, it notices the prompts and code changes you made—with zero lag or interruptions.

Every morning, Engram gives you a quick 5-minute challenge with 3 questions based directly on what your AI wrote yesterday. For example:

  • "Why did we use a transaction in yesterday's database query?"
  • "What does this helper function return if the API fails?"

By answering these quick questions, you actively think through the code instead of passively accepting it.

How It's Built

  • Next.js 15 & Tailwind CSS: Clean web interface and practice dashboard with fast server-side rendering.
  • Neon Postgres & Drizzle ORM: Stores your code snippets, review history, and spaced repetition schedules reliably.
  • Google Gemini Flash: Reviews what changed yesterday and writes 3 clear, relevant test questions tailored to your session.
  • Lightweight IDE Hooks: Runs in the background with zero lag, so your editor stays fast.

What It Means

You get the best of both worlds: the speed of AI code generation, but with real understanding and memory of what was actually built.
